‘Thelma & Louise’ star Susan Sarandon among more than 100 arrested at New York anti‑Netanyahu protest

Susan Sarandon, the renowned actress known for her roles in films such as "Thelma & Louise," "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," "Dead Man Walking," and "The Witches of Eastwick," was among more than 100 individuals arrested in New York during an anti-Netanyahu protest on September 25, 2026. The demonstration, organized by Jewish Voice for Peace, was aimed at criticizing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's upcoming address to the United Nations General Assembly.

Sarandon was reportedly cuffed by NYPD officers at the scene, while actress Hannah Einbinder was also reportedly taken into custody by the police. The NYPD spokesperson stated that officers responded to an "unscheduled demonstration" where protesters were blocking an intersection. They issued warnings, advising participants to leave, but continued to block the intersection.

Multiple individuals who refused to comply were arrested. Despite the arrests, Jewish Voice for Peace claimed that over 100 people were detained during the protest. The demonstration saw over 400 people holding a mass sit-in outside the UN, demanding an end to the genocide in Gaza and an end to US military funding to Israel.
