The White House network TV pool resumes operations after a dayslong ban of news outlets from grounds

The White House network television pool has once again begun its operations, marking a significant return to normalcy after a contentious days-long ban imposed by US President Donald Trump. The ban had effectively prohibited CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from accessing the White House grounds. This decision came amid a high-stakes conflict over media access, with Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping jointly touring the National Archives on September 25.

Upon the resumption of operations, regular broadcast coverage was reinstated, showcasing a routine state visit. The footage included President Trump alongside Xi Jinping, as well as Melania Trump and Xi's wife, Peng Liyuan. The banner at the bottom of CNN's screen, during live reporting, bore the caption: "Trump and China's Xi Visit National Archives."

The network of five major US broadcast outlets that collectively make up the pool had initially declined to participate in solidarity with CNN, but once the ban was temporarily lifted by a judge, they began complying with the White House's directives. The other four pools maintained their stand, continuing to refrain from covering Trump's activities despite being granted access.

CNN's editorial team did not comment on the matter directly but confirmed on X that it had resumed its pool assignment at the National Archives event, and White House credentials had been approved for the network.

Brian Stelter, CNN's media analyst, shared this information on X, stating that CNN had been assigned to cover the National Archives event and that the White House had granted the network's credentials. Despite the ongoing conflict, the network was able to resume its coverage, marking a critical victory for press freedom and transparency.
