Taxi apps get scorecard system as licence rule bites

Taxi apps in Thailand will face a new scorecard system starting October 1, as part of stricter enforcement rules by the Transport Ministry. The innovative system, called Samud Pok App (App Report Card), will track each platform's performance and penalize drivers and vehicles that fail to comply with regulations. Platforms such as Grab, Bolt, inDrive, TADA, Maxim, LINE MAN, Lalamove, and FINGOGO will start with 100 points, which can be deducted for sending jobs to unlicensed drivers, unregistered vehicles, charging illegal fares, or other legal violations.

Upon losing over 40% of their points, a platform will receive a warning, while a score falling into the "red card" range will result in a three-day suspension, escalating to seven, 15, and then 30-day suspensions if issues persist. The scorecards will be reassessed every three months and reset at the start of each quarter. The new system aims to ensure passenger safety and fair competition among ride-hailing services, with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society coordinating efforts to enforce these measures.
