Suzuki targets 4mn units India by FY30

Suzuki Motor Corporation has set its sights on producing 4 million vehicles annually in India by the fiscal year 2030. The Japanese automaker announced this ambitious target alongside a broader global growth strategy during a press briefing on Friday. Suzuki is a significant shareholder in Maruti Suzuki India, holding a 58% stake in the company. The company's India growth plan also includes improving development efficiency by 30% and manufacturing efficiency by 50% by 2030, compared to FY20 levels.

Suzuki's expansion in India has been steady, with the addition of the Hansalpur plant in 2017 and the Kharkhoda plant in 2025. The company aims to shorten new vehicle development lead times by half by 2030 while achieving the set efficiency gains. To accomplish this, Suzuki plans to leverage concurrent development in engineering and manufacturing, deepen digital engineering, and expand modularization.

Furthermore, the company will optimize product development and mass production for each market by utilizing technologies developed in Japan.

In line with its strategy, Suzuki has introduced the concept of Minimisation of Energy, a core technological philosophy it launched in 2024 and expanded with Maximisation of Essential Value in 2025. The company's new technologies, collectively termed Right x Light Mobile Tech, will be integrated across development and production in 2026.

Suzuki is also expanding a biogas initiative in India with its third plant commencing operations in August 2026. The plant harnesses biogas from cow dung, generating organic fertilizer as a by-product. This sustainable local resource circulation model is part of Suzuki's commitment to community-based carbon neutrality, complemented by its growing use of CNG vehicles.

The initiative is part of the Japan-India Cooperative Biogas for Growth (CBG) Initiative, agreed upon by the two governments in July 2026.
