Surat medical college PG student ‘dies by suicide’

In Surat, a 28-year-old postgraduate medical student named Dr. Yogendra Prajapati tragically took his own life by cutting both of his hands, according to the police. Dr. Prajapati, a third-year anatomy student, was found injured in the dissection hall of the Government Medical College. This is the second such incident at the college within a two-month period.

Dr. Prajapati, who resided with his family in the college hostel, had been working in the dissection room all morning when he allegedly committed the act after his colleagues left. His own final exams had concluded the previous week, and he was completing remaining coursework. Dr. Parul Vadgama, the Medical Superintendent, stated that Dr. Prajapati's life was in the dissection wing alone when he used a sharp instrument to slice blood vessels near his elbows.

The reasons for his actions remain unclear, and no suicide note was found. The police have registered the incident as an accidental death and are investigating the case. In a previous incident on August 9, a 30-year-old first-year microbiology student named Harsh Pandya also took his own life at his hostel room due to verbal abuse and humiliation, leading to the arrest of four senior resident doctors.
