Stubb urges Musk to expand Starlink coverage in Ukraine to enable strikes on Russian launchers – media

Finnish President Alexander Stubb urged SpaceX owner Elon Musk to expand Starlink satellite internet coverage for Ukraine, allowing the country to target Russian ballistic missile launchers situated within Russian territory. With winter approaching, Ukraine faces a critical shortage of air defenses to counter Russian missile attacks, and Kyiv officials believe that deploying Starlink over Russian soil could aid in striking the launchers responsible for launching the missiles.

Stubb, who emphasized that the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, pushed for ceasefires that would encompass strikes on energy infrastructure and Black Sea vessels during the UN gathering, highlighted three crucial needs for Ukraine's winter survival. First and foremost, Stubb stressed the importance of air defenses, with Starlink serving as a valuable supplementary air defense mechanism.

Moreover, he stressed the urgency of establishing energy installations to keep Ukrainians warm during the harsh winter months. Lastly, financial resources were deemed indispensable to support Ukraine's efforts in securing these vital objectives. Stubb noted that US-led peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine resumed in August, following meetings between US envoys and the leaders of both Moscow and Kyiv.

Stubb maintained confidence in the prospects of an unconditional ceasefire, which he advocated as the most straightforward solution. He suggested implementing ceasefires along the current front lines, creating 30-kilometer buffer zones east and west of the conflict zone. If a complete cessation of hostilities proves unfeasible, the next best option would involve a partial ceasefire targeting energy and grain-related targets.
