Experts warn that this breach could leave agents vulnerable to scams, blackmail, and targeted attacks, and could aid criminals in impersonating law enforcement officers.

The cyber-criminal group ShinyHunters claims responsibility for the hack, stating they compromised FBI systems on Monday and later posted details of the attack online, demanding a retraction of an FBI advisory they claim offended them.

The group is not demanding money but instead seeks to expose the breach. Initial reports suggest the breach may have affected up to 60,000 current and former FBI staff, including senior officials.
