Sheikha Al Mayassa deepens Years of Culture partnerships in South America

In a three-country tour of Argentina, Chile, and Brazil, Sheikha Al Mayassa, Chairperson of Qatar Museums and Founder of the Years of Culture initiative, has deepened cultural partnerships and knowledge exchange between Qatar and South America.

The tour built upon the Qatar-Argentina and Chile 2025 Year of Culture, as well as the Qatar-Brazil 2014 Year of Culture. It facilitated productive discussions with leaders in business, government, and cultural affairs, showcasing how Year of Culture relationships continue beyond individual programs through institutional collaboration and art presentation to new audiences.

Reflecting on the tour during a conversation at the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, Sheikha Al Mayassa expressed her enthusiasm for furthering these collaborations. She emphasized that culture fosters understanding, builds enduring relationships, and is a crucial aspect of cultural diplomacy, as outlined in the Qatar National Vision 2030.

In Argentina, Sheikha Al Mayassa engaged in a 25th Anniversary Symposium at the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (Malba), alongside Glenn Lowry, former Director Emeritus of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The discussion centered on cultural diplomacy and large-scale projects.

The visit also included an institutional relationship in Chile, where Sheikha Al Mayassa visited Centro Cultural La Moneda to view the first Latin American presentation of Qatar Museums' exhibition Your Ghosts Are Mine: Expanded Cinemas, Amplified Voices. Meanwhile, in São Paulo, Brazil, she participated in a panel on 'Art, Regeneration and the Global South' at Cidade Matarazzo and met with Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere to discuss further cultural relations. She also attended ArtRio ahead of Rio Art Week.
