Self-custodial Bitget Wallet was unaffected by exchange security incident- Bitget

Bitget Wallet, a self-custodial wallet, confirmed that its systems and users' assets remained unaffected by the recent security incident experienced by Bitget Exchange. Following precautionary security checks, it was determined that the incident only affected parts of Bitget Exchange's hot and warm wallet infrastructure. Bitget Exchange's preliminary investigation revealed that attackers managed to compromise a backend system, manipulate transaction data, and trigger the authorization process.

However, the possibility of a private key compromise has been discounted. Bitget Wallet operates differently from the centralized exchange, as its users retain control over their wallets, and assets remain on-chain instead of being held in an exchange-controlled pool. Bitget Wallet stated that its security checks found no impact on its systems or users' self-custodied assets, and the company affirmed that its services remain fully operational.

Bitget Wallet, initially launched as BitKeep in 2018 before being rebranded in 2023, has grown to become a popular self-custodial consumer product, boasting over 100 million users globally by 2026. The clarification was issued in response to various reports that inaccurately referred to the affected infrastructure as "Bitget wallets," potentially causing confusion with Bitget Wallet's own product.

Bitget Wallet advised users that no wallet migration or asset transfer is necessary due to the incident, while cautioning them to remain vigilant against phishing and impersonation attempts.
