SCHMID surges after Nvidia, AMD, Intel consider using glass substrates in chips

Intel is reportedly enticing major US chip companies like Amazon, Apple, AMD, Google, Tesla, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Qualcomm to evaluate its upcoming 14A node, according to a report by investment firm Piper Sandler. This development could be a significant turning point for Intel, potentially leading to lucrative opportunities. The report cites better-than-expected technical data points, a shortage of foundry and packaging suppliers due to TSMC's backlog, and a push to bring chip production back to the US as reasons for the evaluation.

Intel CEO Lip Bu Tan has stated that securing a significant external customer and meeting important customer milestones will be a crucial indicator of the company's commitment to the 14A technology. Intel is projected to manufacture its 14A node as early as 2028, aiming to compete directly with TSMC. Intel's 14A node is the next generation of its chip production technology, with a size of 14 angstroms or 1.4 nanometers.

While it's unclear how this compares to TSMC's technology, Intel's CEO expects it to be competitive with TSMC's N2 node.
