Sarawak expected to gain 15 new parliamentary seats under proposed redelineation

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 — Sarawak is set to gain 15 additional parliamentary seats through a proposed electoral boundary redelineation exercise, according to documents shared with Berita Harian. This would increase the state's parliamentary constituencies from the current 31 to 46, bringing Sabah and Sarawak's collective representation in the Dewan Rakyat to one-third of the total.

The Election Commission (EC) has submitted the proposed boundary review to local political parties, and the public display stage is scheduled to conclude this month. The last boundary review in Sarawak was conducted in 2005, adding three constituencies and raising the total to 31. The proposed increase would bring Sarawak's parliamentary seats from the current 31 to 46, increasing the state's representation ratio to meet the one-third principle under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
