Russia Likely To Intensify Hybrid Attacks Against NATO And The West — Danish Intelligence

Denmark's Defence Intelligence Service warns Russia is poised to escalate its hybrid warfare against NATO and Western nations in the coming months. The intelligence agency highlights the growing threat of destructive cyberattacks capable of crippling critical infrastructure and acts of sabotage that could lead to significant casualties.

While the risk of a limited military attack on one or more NATO states remains low, it is expected to rise if Moscow believes NATO countries lack a unified response to Russian aggression. Danish officials emphasize that a full-scale invasion of NATO countries is considered unlikely at present. The assessment reflects mounting apprehension among European governments regarding Russia's strategic use of hybrid methods to coerce NATO members and other Western states through non-confrontational means such as information warfare, sabotage, and cyber operations.

The Danish assessment aligns with warnings from other European officials who note an escalation in the intensity of Russia's hybrid activities aimed at countries providing support to Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has also criticized Russia's use of provocations in Europe as part of its broader geopolitical strategy, seeking to showcase perceived victories to its domestic population while failing to achieve military goals in Ukraine.

European nations are responding by bolstering collaboration within NATO and devising measures to counter Russian hybrid threats, including cyberattacks, sabotage, disinformation campaigns, and other disruptive tactics.
