Qatar co-hosts ‘Call to Action’ on Gaza humanitarian crisis

Qatar joined forces with Jordan and the United Kingdom to host a "Call to Action" meeting regarding the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip during the 81st UN General Assembly in New York. Dr Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh al-Khulaifi, Qatar's Minister of State, represented his country at the gathering. The minister stressed that Qatar highly values easing the plight of the Palestinian people, which has been the driving force behind Qatar's diplomatic endeavors to reach a ceasefire in Gaza and implement the comprehensive 20-point plan proposed by former US President Donald Trump and approved by the UN Security Council (Resolution 2803).

Dr al-Khulaifi pointed out that Qatar's diplomatic efforts have been complemented by substantial humanitarian initiatives. These include the distribution of food, essential supplies, and tents to around 436,000 individuals, as well as the restoration of the HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani Hospital for Rehabilitation and Prosthetics.

Additionally, Qatar has supplied the Gaza Strip with 30 million liters of fuel over the past three years and recently signed a deal with the UN to provide an additional 1.3 million liters to aid medical facilities and essential services.

The minister underscored the importance of ensuring prompt, lasting, and unhindered access to humanitarian aid, enabling organizations to operate safely and protecting medical personnel, facilities, and transport. He also emphasized the urgency of providing shelter, clean water, and sanitation services as winter approaches. Dr al-Khulaifi reiterated Qatar's commitment to collaborating with partners and the Board of Peace to tackle urgent humanitarian needs and support recovery and reconstruction efforts, with the ultimate aim of achieving a just and enduring peace. He also expressed gratitude for the support extended to the "Call to Action."
