Prabowo Lauds Badminton Team for First Asian Games Gold

President Prabowo Subianto lauded the Indonesian men's badminton team for securing their nation's inaugural gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The President personally congratulated the athletes via a phone call on Thursday, September 24, 2026, after they returned home from the Games. In a post on his official Instagram account, @prabowo, Prabowo expressed his gratitude to the athletes for their dedication and hard work, urging them to continue bringing glory to Indonesia.

As of Friday, September 25, 2026, Indonesia had earned a total of 21 medals at the Games, with one gold, four silver, and 16 bronze. Indonesia currently holds the 16th position in the overall medal rankings. The 2026 Asian Games are scheduled to continue until October 4, 2026. Three months prior to the Games, Prabowo had announced a Rp3 billion cash bonus for any athlete who won a gold medal at the 20th Asian Games in Japan, which is three times the reward given at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand.

The President had reportedly received confirmation from Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir that gold medalists from the 2025 SEA Games had received Rp1 billion each.
