“Not Going to Believe Anything”: Tennis Insider Raises Concerns After Jannik Sinner’s China Open Withdrawal

Tennis insider Jose Morón expressed growing doubts concerning Jannik Sinner's recovery from a persistent right knee injury, following the Italian's sudden withdrawal from the China Open. Sinner, the top-ranked player, was last seen competing at Wimbledon, where he successfully defended his title against Alexander Zverev. However, he has since pulled out of several tournaments, including the Canadian Open, Cincinnati Open, and US Open, due to the knee issue.

Sinner's knee condition has been characterized as extra-articular tendon inflammation. After missing the US Open, the German was expected to return at the China Open. Yet, just days prior to the tournament, he announced his inability to defend his title, citing his knee was not yet in optimal condition. Shortly after the withdrawal announcement, Morón shared his concerns about Sinner's injury on X, questioning the previous updates.

He wrote, "In August, they told us it was 'nothing serious,' that he’d be at the US Open without any issues, that it was all just rumors... Until we see him on the court, we can’t say he’s okay."

Sinner is currently undergoing physical therapy and shockwave treatment rather than surgery. In a video posted on X, Sinner explained his decision to withdraw from the China Open, revealing that his knee is not yet where he desires it to be and that he is not ready to compete. He apologized to his Chinese fans and wished the other players well. Sinner expressed his disappointment at not being able to defend his title but stated his intention to return next year and return to the court as soon as possible.
