NFL news: NFLPA executive director criticizes league for Brazil scheduling

NFLPA executive director JC Tretter has voiced concern over the condition of the field at Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, where the league's upcoming game between the Baltimore Ravens and Dallas Cowboys is scheduled to take place. Tretter emphasized that while the field's safety is crucial, playability is equally important for NFL players.

He pointed out that loose, patchy grass could cause players to slip, potentially impacting their performance. Although NFLPA field experts have recommended reinforced stitching to enhance traction and a treatment process to address the field's issues, Tretter stressed that players shouldn't have to overcome the field itself. Local soccer players had already raised concerns about the stadium's grass, and NFL field director Nick Pappas had previously expressed confidence in the preparations.

However, Tretter highlighted that this is the second of three Brazil games to face field-related issues, underscoring the need for the league to establish standards that cover performance as well as safety.
