New LNG Carrier for Diamond Global Energy Named “DIAMOND GAS NEXUS”

On September 18, NYK hosted a naming ceremony for a newly constructed liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier at HD Hyundai Samho Co., Ltd. in South Korea. The event was graced by prominent figures, such as DGE CEO Tetsuro Wada and NYK Executive Officer Ryutaro Okuzawa. Mr. Wada officially christened the vessel as "DIAMOND GAS NEXUS."

The ship is chartered to Diamond Global Energy Pte. Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation, based in Singapore, under a long-term time-charter agreement. NYK Group manages the vessel, which is primarily expected to facilitate LNG transportation for the Cameron LNG project in the United States, a project shared by Mitsubishi Corporation and NYK.

The vessel boasts advanced features, including the latest WinGD dual-fuel slow-speed diesel engine, capable of utilizing both fuel oil and boil-off fuel. Moreover, it is equipped with a sub-cooler system that cools cargo and minimizes the generation of excess boil-off gas, thereby enhancing transportation efficiency and lowering environmental impact.

The NYK Group's medium-term management plan, "Sail Green, Drive Transformations 2026," focuses on expanding existing core businesses and venturing into new growth sectors. In the context of the Energy Business Division, NYK has intensified efforts towards the LNG/LPG carrier segment, perceiving it as a promising growth area. The company aims to bolster its position as a leading LNG carrier owning and management entity by leveraging its extensive experience, expertise, and extensive networks.
