New container shipping route launched between E.China’s Jiangsu and Mexico

On Wednesday, a cargo ship carrying 524 special containers set sail from Jiangyin port in East China's Jiangsu Province, launching a new direct container shipping route to Mexico. This route offers a journey time of around 22 days, significantly reducing cargo transit time and logistics costs compared to traditional routes that necessitate transshipment at Shanghai and Ningbo.

According to Jia Yabo, deputy head of the local Maritime Safety Administration, the special containers feature a lowered-profile design to comply with height restrictions in Mexican railway tunnels and underpasses, facilitating seamless intermodal transportation via road and rail. The arrival of these containers at Manzanillo Port will facilitate further inland transportation and support special cargo logistics services throughout North America.

Jiangyin port, a key export hub in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, has been expanding international container routes to Southeast Asia, Europe, and other regions. This new direct route will provide a more efficient and convenient maritime passage for enterprises in the Yangtze River Delta, enabling them to explore the North American market.

In a related development, on July 8, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) launched a weekly service from Tianjin Port to Mexico, marking the official opening of another direct shipping route to the Americas.
