Nancy urges women to be bold, lead with clear vision

Nancy Shukri, the Women, Family and Community Development Minister, has called on women to display courage and lead with a clear vision in order to play a more significant role in shaping society. She emphasized that leadership extends beyond politics and holding key positions; it is about assisting communities and addressing their needs. Politics, in her view, involves caring for others and their requirements, which should be incorporated into one's plans for self-improvement.

The minister highlighted the importance of empathy in leadership and urged leaders to align their spirit with actions that benefit the community. She advised leaders to be cautious when dealing with challenges, maintain composure while resolving issues, and know when to remain silent and listen instead of speaking. Nancy stressed that a leader does not always need to speak extensively; there are times when remaining quiet and learning from others is more valuable.

Moreover, the minister emphasized that leaders must achieve tangible results that contribute to society or provide a return on investment (ROI) from their responsibilities. She cited Dr. Florence Christie, a Sarawakian woman who represented the region at the Global Alliance for Healthy Cities (AFHC) 2026 Conference in Sydney, Australia, as a testament to the potential of Sarawakian women to compete on the international stage.
