N. Korea building new warships on both coasts: NK News

North Korea has commenced building two new warships on its east and west coasts, according to U.S. news outlet NK News, which cited satellite imagery. Planet Labs imagery indicates construction is underway at the Nampho Shipyard on the west coast and the Chongjin Shipyard on the east coast. The Nampho shipyard is reportedly constructing what could be North Korea's first 10,000-ton cruiser, though it is premature to confirm.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un had previously stated plans in June to build such cruisers. Meanwhile, at the Chongjin Shipyard, a warship began taking shape in mid-August, with satellite imagery showing red ship hull materials being assembled. Its potential size and type remain uncertain, but it could potentially be the North's long-planned second destroyer, the fourth of the 5,000-ton class, or another 10,000-ton cruiser.

Both shipyards are also undergoing upgrades following a directive from North Korean leader Kim Jong-un at a Central Military Commission meeting in July, emphasizing the country's intent to bolster its naval capabilities.
