Moses Simon Chasing 100th Cap as Eagles Ambush Madagascar in Uyo

Frankfurt forward Moses Simon stands on the precipice of achieving a significant milestone in his career for Nigeria's national football team, the Super Eagles. Should he feature in today's 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Madagascar in Uyo, Simon will become only the second Nigerian player, after Alex Iwobi, to win 100 caps for his country.

Born in Benue, Simon made his debut for the Super Eagles on 25th March 2015, accumulating 99 caps thus far with 12 goals to his name. His potential achievement will place him alongside Alex Iwobi, Joseph Yobo, and Ahmed Musa, marking a pinnacle in his football journey. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has planned a special celebration, akin to the one for Iwobi, to honor Simon's impending achievement.

Simon has played 64 competitive matches for Nigeria and 35 friendly games, with notable involvement in 23 AFCON finals and 22 FIFA World Cup qualification matches. One of his earliest caps came against Swaziland in the 2018 FIFA World Cup preliminary qualifying campaign, where he scored a decisive goal after a scoreless draw. NFF Acting General Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, lauded Simon's dedication and patriotic spirit, expressing confidence in the team's ability to secure victory in the upcoming match against Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

The Nigerian squad, buoyed by the return of key players like Ola Aina and Benjamin Fredricks, is poised to deliver another strong performance in Uyo, with Simon, alongside other talented players, set to spearhead the campaign.
