Meet Nigerian pastor Idachama, first robotic surgery patient at Ogun hospital

Nigerian pastor, Alexander Idachama, made history as the first patient to undergo robotic-assisted surgery at Redeemer’s Health Village Hospital in Ogun State. The radical prostatectomy, assisted by surgical robotics, was performed in partnership with RoboMed Global Inc., a US-based organization. The surgery was successfully carried out with surgeons from the hospital and local physicians, including Dr. Ifeanyi, leading the team.

Notably, this was West Africa’s first telerobotic surgery, where surgeons remotely operated on a patient with a kidney tumor in Abuja. Idachama, a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and RCCG pastor, discovered the hospital through its CEO, Dr. Adedamola Dada. He underwent orientation sessions before the procedure and was discharged within 24 hours, experiencing only mild pain afterward.

The pastor praised the hospital's facilities and recommended it to his friends and family, emphasizing the benefits of robotic surgery, such as greater precision, less pain, and a gentler impact on patients.
