Mastodon Mesmerize Brooklyn with Deafheaven and Alcest: Review, Photos + Video

Mastodon took the stage at the Brooklyn Paramount on Thursday night, bringing along Deafheaven and Alcest for a triple bill of highly acclaimed metal acts. The concert was a treat for fans of the genre, as Alcest is credited with pioneering the blackgaze sound that Deafheaven expanded upon. The evening kicked off at 7 p.m. with Alcest, whose five-song set was both beautiful and heavy, featuring founding member Neige trading lead vocals with touring member Zero.

Following Alcest, Deafheaven took the stage at 8 p.m., with frontman George Clarke exuding a fiery intensity throughout his six-song set, primarily drawn from their latest album, Lonely People with Power. The set concluded with "Winona," a track ranked No. 2 on our list of the Best Metal & Hard Rock Songs of 2025. Finally, at 8:57 p.m., Mastodon took the stage, kicking off their "Poisonous Weapons Tour" set with drummer-singer Brann Dailor behind the kit.

Singer-bassist Troy Sanders led the 18-song set, which included tracks from their new album, Marrow Deep, such as "Your Ghost Again" and "Snakes for Dinner." During the latter, Alcest's John Baizley joined Mastodon to finish the song and stayed for the rest of the set, adding his powerful vocals and guitar playing to several other tracks.

The video backdrop showcasing animated imagery paired with each song added to the immersive experience. Fans of metal music were thrilled to witness all three of these bands in one night, and it is highly recommended for any metal fan to attend the remaining dates on Mastodon's "Poisonous Weapons Tour" at the Brooklyn Paramount.
