Malaysia pledges additional US$1m to UN agency for Palestinian refugees

Malaysia has pledged an additional US$1 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to aid humanitarian efforts in Palestine. Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan disclosed that this contribution will be disbursed in yearly installments of US$200,000 over a period of five years, concluding in 2030, as reported by Berita Harian.

During his address at the OIC Annual Coordination Meeting of Foreign Ministers, Mohamad emphasized the importance of sending a clear signal that Palestinian statehood cannot remain a mere promise. He urged the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to advocate for an immediate and enduring ceasefire. Additionally, Malaysia called upon Israel to cease settler violence in the West Bank, halt the unlawful removal of Palestinians from Jerusalem, and refrain from any actions that could change the identity of Jerusalem or its holy sites.

Furthermore, Malaysia solicited increased support from OIC member states in safeguarding, rebuilding, and fortifying Palestinian institutions. Mohamad asserted that the OIC should play a pivotal role in striving towards the establishment of an independent, sovereign, and viable Palestinian state in accordance with the two-state solution.
