Malaysia ends 36-year wait for Asian Games sepak takraw gold, beats Thailand 2-0

NAGOYA, Sept 25 — After a 36-year hiatus, Malaysia's men's sepak takraw team has claimed its first gold medal at the Asian Games. The team triumphed over Thailand 2-0 in the final match at Nagoya City Mizuho Arena. According to Berita Harian, Malaysia's victory in the men's team regu final marked their first gold since the 1990 Beijing Asian Games, when they also defeated Thailand in the championship match.

Mohammad Syahir Mohd Rosdi, Farhan Adam, and Mohamad Azlan Alias scored the opening point for Malaysia, defeating Marukin Phanmakon, Putawan Sopa, and Pornthep Tingbangbon with a 15-9, 5-15, 15-11 score. The second regu then secured the gold for Malaysia with a 15-13, 15-10 straight-sets win over Thailand. This win marked Malaysia's second consecutive win over Thailand in a team regu final at a major multi-sport Games, following their victory at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand last December. The triumph added Malaysia's fourth gold medal to their tally at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
