(LEAD) (Asiad) S. Korea wins gold in men's kayak double 500m racing at Asian Games

NAGOYA: Following a lackluster day without victories, Malaysia's athletes will once again pursue medals at the Asian Games in various sports today. The sepak takraw team aims to claim their maiden team regu gold since 1990, but face tough competition from Thailand. In athletics, Azeem Fahmi and Umaira Subri will strive for a men's 100m record, with their night finals yet to come.

Umar Osman and Shereen Samson Vallabuoy will contest the men's and women's 400m preliminaries, while Sadat Ajisan will participate in the men's hammer throw. Nani Shahirah Maryata will vie for the women's shot put title. Artistic gymnast Sharul Aimy Kamaru Hisam, a bronze medallist from Hangzhou, will contest the men's vault final.

Ng Eain Yow (men's singles), S. Sivasangari and Aira Azman (women's singles), along with mixed doubles pairs Aifa Azman-Syafiq Kamal and Ameeshenraj Chandaran-Rachel Arnold, will continue in the quarter-finals. Johnathan Wong and Nurul Syasya Ariffin will join forces in the 10m air pistol mixed team event. Dhuha Zulfikry and Khiew Hoe Yean will swim the 400m freestyle in men's swimming.

Goh Li Jie and Tan Khai Xin will compete in the 200m butterfly and 50m breaststroke, respectively. Choong Javen will face Taiwan's Yi-Hsin Feng in the men's singles elimination round of table tennis. Malaysia will enter the Pokemon Unite eSports competition in the group stage. In surfing, Mona Rasidah Abdul Rashid will compete in the women's shortboard opening round, while equestrian rider Diani Lee will take part in the individual dressage qualifiers.

Men's doubles pairs Aaron Chia-Tee Kai Wun and Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, and women's doubles pairs Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah and Low Zi Yu-Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan will join the opening round.
