‘It’s alarming’: Man wanted after 4 people assaulted on Scarborough TTC bus; police say hate motive not established

Toronto police have issued an arrest warrant for a 37-year-old man, Michael Ye, after four people were allegedly assaulted on a TTC bus in Scarborough. The incidents occurred on Wednesday, September 23, around Huntingwood Drive and Midland Avenue. The suspect is described as having no fixed address. Police have identified four victims, all of whom were female, including a teenage girl who was punched in the face.

Emad Ali, office manager of the North American Muslim Foundation, reported that the victims were South Asian and one was wearing a hijab. The girl suffered bruising around her eye and was taken to the hospital. Police are currently investigating the incidents but have not yet determined whether they constitute hate crimes.
