Italy to Limit Number of Foreign Students

Italy's government has approved new measures to limit the number of foreign students in some school classes. The Council of Ministers approved the changes on September 24, as reported by ProPakistani. The goal is to avoid having too many non-Italian-speaking or foreign students in individual classes. First-year classes can have no more than 30% of students meeting the foreign-student cap criteria.

This rule applies to certain classes where many students struggle with the Italian language. Schools will be able to move students between classes and provide extra Italian-language assistance as needed. The government states that these measures aim to improve integration and stop the formation of isolated groups within schools.

The decree also imposes restrictions on wearing full-face coverings like burqas and niqabs during school activities and meetings with families. Parents could face fines if their children break the face-covering rules. The measures begin immediately but must be approved by Parliament within 60 days to stay in effect.
