Israel striker sent off for gun celebration in Nations League defeat to Austria

Israel striker Saied Abu Farchi was dismissed for using a corner flag to simulate a gun celebration during Israel's 3-1 loss to Austria in a Nations League match. The 20-year-old scored the equalizing goal for Israel in the 55th minute, but his controversial gesture led to a second yellow card and subsequent red card. Austria scored late goals to win the match 3-1.

The Israeli Football Association (IFA) accused Ireland coach Heimir Hallgrimsson of hypocrisy and stupidity for his comments about the upcoming match against Israel, which will take place in neutral venues in Hungary and Serbia due to safety concerns. Ireland's FA confirmed they will play both matches despite calls for a boycott.

Hallgrimsson defended his comments, stating that his team is "playing against Israel" and not "playing with Israel." The Israeli FA accused Ireland of ignorance and hypocrisy, while the Irish Taoiseach Michael Martin called the Israeli FA's comments "unacceptable" and urged them to be withdrawn. Ireland's captain Dara O’Shea said the team will discuss whether to stage a protest before the match against Israel.
