I Built Nabsun: An Open-Source AI Browser That Works in Your Real Tabs

An AI-powered browser called Nabsun has been developed, designed to work seamlessly within existing browser tabs. This open-source tool, built on Chromium and Electron, integrates an AI assistant directly into the browser interface. The assistant can read the current page, compare information across tabs, and use browser tools to assist in completing tasks within the user's current session.

Nabsun supports various AI models, including a local model (Qwen3 1.7B), cloud providers like Anthropic or OpenAI, and existing assistant accounts such as Codex or Claude Code. Users can choose the model that best suits their needs. The AI assistant sits beside the browser tabs, allowing for a more integrated and efficient workflow.

With Nabsun, users can perform tasks such as summarizing pages, comparing tab content, extracting information, filling forms, and conducting research without leaving their current browser session. The assistant provides visibility into its actions, making it easier to understand and control the process. Nabsun also includes conventional browser features like tabs, bookmarks, history, downloads, session restoration, and encrypted saved passwords.

However, the extent to which the assistant can interact with web pages, including clicking, typing, and navigating, varies depending on the website's compatibility and the assistant's capabilities. Nabsun's architecture focuses on maintaining a clear separation between browser tools and the AI models used, allowing users to start using the tool without the need for additional accounts or API keys.

The assistant can also be connected to external agents through an MCP server, enabling collaboration in development workflows. Despite its capabilities, Nabsun requires careful consideration of security measures, as an assistant operating within the user's session has significant access privileges.
