Honor’s New Phone Camera Accessory Looks Like a Giant Telescope

Honor is preparing a Photography Master Kit for the upcoming Magic9 Pro Max smartphone, set to launch on September 28 in China. The kit includes two external telephoto converters: the larger G500 and the smaller G200 attachment. The G500 is said to extend the phone's optical zoom capabilities by up to 5.88 times, achieving an equivalent focal length of approximately 500mm.

In contrast, the G200 offers a more portable option with an equivalent focal length of 200mm, roughly the size of a thumb. Both attachments are designed as genuine optical telephoto converters, clipping onto the phone's camera module rather than cropping images. While Honor describes the G500 as suitable for situations like concerts and bird photography, its large size makes it less suitable for everyday use.

The Magic9 Pro Max is expected to feature two 200MP cameras, developed in collaboration with ARRI for advanced color processing. The phone will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset. Pricing and availability for the camera kit remain undisclosed at this time.
