Hong Kong astronaut Lai Ka-ying sends Mid-Autumn Festival wishes to residents from space

Hong Kong’s pioneering astronaut Lai Ka-ying has extended heartfelt Mid-Autumn Festival greetings to residents from the cosmos. Speaking from China’s Tiangong space station, Lai expressed a profound yearning for her hometown, stating, “Looking at the moon from here and looking down at the earth, I increasingly miss my family and friends in Hong Kong.”

She wished the entire country good health, a joyful family life, and prosperity for Hong Kong and Macau. The astronaut also highlighted the impact of letters, paintings, and blessings received from Hong Kong and Macau students, urging them to continue learning about China’s space achievements and foster a sense of patriotism. Lai emphasized the significance of the “A Shared Cosmic Vision for National Rejuvenation” program in Hong Kong and Macau, noting that it was not just about knowledge transfer but also about invaluable communication.

She thanked the students for their warm thoughts and support. Earlier this month, Lai and her fellow Shenzhou-23 crew members, Colonel Zhu Yangzhu and Zhang Zhiyuan, delivered a live lesson on space for students and teachers at their former school, Tsuen Wan Public Ho Chuen Yiu Memorial College. The 90-minute session, accessible to campuses across Hong Kong, was broadcast live on TV channels.

During the broadcast, Lai motivated students to persevere and not fear difficulties, remarking that the resilience of Hong Kong’s Lion Rock spirit parallels that of the manned space flight.
