Hannah Einbinder and Susan Sarandon detained at pro-Palestine protest during Netanyahu's New York visit

Hannah Einbinder, a 31-year-old actress from Hacks, and Susan Sarandon, the 79-year-old Oscar-winning star, were arrested during a massive pro-Palestine sit-in protest outside the United Nations in New York City. The demonstration took place as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a speech to the United Nations General Assembly.

Over 100 individuals were apprehended during the protest, though the New York Police Department has yet to officially confirm the arrests of Einbinder and Sarandon. Sarandon, visibly detained by police, can be seen in photographs, while footage posted on social media shows Einbinder with her hands cuffed behind her back as officers lead her away.

Einbinder shouted, "Netanyahu out of New York," during her arrest and later addressed her detention on Instagram, urging people to focus on the ongoing atrocities in Gaza rather than the celebrities involved. She emphasized that the "genocide is the headline, and it is time for it to end," and encouraged donations to Pal Humanity, a medical and humanitarian organization based in Gaza.

Einbinder, a Jewish individual, has consistently expressed her support for Palestinians, most recently using her Emmy acceptance speech to criticize US immigration enforcement and advocate for a free Palestine. Sarandon, too, has been an ardent supporter of Palestinians, attending numerous protests since the war in Gaza began. Fellow demonstrators included notable figures such as Cynthia Nixon, Elliot Page, Indya Moore, Sarah Sherman, Mary Beth Barone, and Caleb Hearon, as well as musicians Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker.

Protesters carried signs reading "Free Palestine," "Stop Arming Israel," and "Fund People Not Bombs," while chanting "Free Palestine" and "Netanyahu, you can’t hide, we charge you with genocide." The protest coincided with Netanyahu's address to the UN, during which several delegates walked out in protest. Despite the demonstration, Netanyahu defiantly defended Israel, dismissing allegations of genocide as "the biggest lie of the century" and dismissing the protesters as "phony human rights protesters."
