Gravity Seems Holographic. What Does That Mean for Reality?

In recent years, a surprising connection between gravity and quantum mechanics has captured the attention of physicists. This connection, known as the AdS/CFT correspondence or the holographic principle, suggests that gravity eliminates the distinction between volume and area. The principle asserts that all the information within a region of space can be represented by data on the boundary of that region, effectively making the interior irrelevant for the exterior observer.

This led theorists like Leonard Susskind to propose that black holes are essentially "holograms," with the interior of the black hole being irrelevant for the exterior observer.

The holographic principle has far-reaching implications for our understanding of space and time, suggesting that the fabric of the universe may be a holographic projection of the information stored on its boundaries.
