Foundation Donates N5m For UNIZIK Medical Centre Walkway Reconstruction

The Charles Kene Ojukwu Initiative Okunenyeife Foundation has contributed N5 million to Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka for the reconstruction of the walkway connecting the old Medical Centre with the newly built University Medical Centre. The donation was made to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, before the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) accreditation process.

Mr Sylvester Ojiugo, the foundation's manager, and Dr Chibuike Abunike, a university lecturer, presented the donation on behalf of founder Dr Charles Kenechukwu Ojukwu. Abunike explained that the donation is part of several initiatives Ojukwu plans to undertake to support his alma mater. Ojukwu, a consultant family physician based in Canada, has been interested in projects that contribute to the university's development.

The foundation pledged support during Ojukwu's visit in June 2026, focusing on upgrading the University Medical Centre. Prof. Hilda Osisioma, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), expressed gratitude for the foundation's commitment to the Medical Centre's development. Dr Jane Ezeonu, the Director of Medical Services, thanked the Vice-Chancellor for fostering partnerships and collaborations, praising Ojukwu's support for the Medical Centre.

Anyaehie acknowledged the donor, stating that UNIZIK remains on a positive trajectory under his leadership, welcoming partnerships, alumni, and friends to contribute to the university's growth. The reconstruction of the walkway is expected to enhance movement between the old and new Medical Centre buildings for all stakeholders.
