Foreign Secretary Miliband warns FM Araghchi UK will not tolerate hostile activity on British soil

British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband cautioned Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi that the United Kingdom would not stand for any hostile actions or intimidation linked to Iran within British territory. The encounter occurred between the two officials during the United Nations General Assembly in New York, according to the British Foreign Office.

The discussion encompassed regional happenings, such as the ongoing Middle Eastern conflict, as well as initiatives to reestablish freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Miliband appealed to Iran to adopt "de-escalation and diplomacy rather than extending the war," as stated in a government announcement. Furthermore, he emphasized the significance of fully opening the Strait of Hormuz, warning that ongoing obstruction of this crucial shipping route could jeopardize global security and economic stability.

During their meeting, Miliband reiterated the United Kingdom's resolve to tackle threats from Iran-linked groups operating within the UK, including those aimed at the British Jewish community. "The Foreign Secretary conveyed unequivocally that Britain will not endure intimidation, threats, or hostile activity on UK soil and outlined the steps the government has undertaken in response," the statement added.

The warning followed an assertion from the British National Cyber Security Center, which reported that Iranian state-backed cyber actors had employed a spyware tool named "CHOSEN BRICK" to obtain emails, messages, and other confidential data via spear-phishing attacks on platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram.
