Fever news: Aliyah Boston injury update is good news for playoff run

The Indiana Fever secured the No. 6 seed after a disappointing 86-66 loss to the Minnesota Lynx at Target Center on Thursday. The Fever, who dominated the Lynx during the regular season with a 28-16 record, were unable to secure the higher No. 4 spot due to a victory by the Atlanta Dream over the New York Liberty on Wednesday. A win against the Lynx would have given them the No. 5 seed, as they held the tiebreaker with the Washington Mystics, who also finished with a 28-16 record. Indiana's playoff hopes took a hit with the team's regular season finale on a sour note.

Despite the setback, there is positive news for the Fever: Aliyah Boston is not dealing with a major injury. Stephanie White of Forbes Sports reported that Boston had a flare-up, which kept her out of the game for precautionary reasons. Boston only played 13 minutes against the Lynx, registering four points, three rebounds, and one steal before exiting early and not returning for the second half.

With Boston's limited playing time, the Fever also saw limited contributions from Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell, who didn't play much in the game. Clark had two points on 1-of-12 shooting in 18 minutes, while Mitchell scored 10 points on 3-of-12 shooting in 22 minutes, ending her 20-game scoring streak at 27 games.

Concerns arise for the Fever as they prepare for the playoffs, particularly with Aliyah Boston's health. The team cannot afford to lose Boston during the postseason, and extra caution regarding her injury was a wise decision. Indiana also suffered the loss of Ty Harris to an ankle injury in the third quarter, who had to be carried off the court and taken to the locker room.
