Ex-governor El-Rufai Reflects on Silence of Associates, States He Doesn’t Any Revenge

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has stated in a personal reflection that he does not hold grudges against friends, associates, or family members who have not publicly supported him during his current challenges. In his reflection dated September 23, 2026, El-Rufai acknowledged the questions raised by the silence of those he had previously supported, but emphasized that he did not consider their decision as something for which they should be judged.

He explained that his past support for individuals and causes was rooted in his Islamic faith, upbringing, personal values, and conscience, rather than an expectation of future reciprocation.

El-Rufai noted that those he had supported are free to make their own choices now that the circumstances have reversed. He acknowledged that the reasons behind their decisions are the responsibility of the individuals concerned and that he does not intend to judge them based on their differing responses. The former governor admitted that difficult circumstances had prompted him to reflect on some of his relationships, but stated that such reflection would be conducted quietly and without regret.

El-Rufai emphasized that reassessment of relationships should not be interpreted as condemnation and that he had no regrets about standing by people or causes when he believed it was the right thing to do.

He stressed that he would remain guided by the principles that shaped his own conduct rather than allowing the actions of others to influence his values. When faced with perceived injustice, ingratitude, or injury, El-Rufai said he was not interested in seeking revenge or retribution. Instead, he left ultimate accountability to Almighty Allah and prioritized maintaining peace with his conscience and with God.

He allowed posterity to judge the choices made by those involved, emphasizing that his priority was to remain at peace with his own conscience and with God.
