Ethiopia, Djibouti Presidents Hail Dangote’s $660 Million Oil Terminal, Pipeline Project

Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed and Djiboutian President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh have hailed the $660 million Damarjog-Dewele Oil Terminal and Pipeline Project, launched by the Dangote Group. The leaders emphasized the project's potential to boost regional integration, energy security, job creation, and economic growth across the Horn of Africa.

The pipeline project, stretching 120 kilometers, will link storage facilities in Djibouti with those in Ethiopia. Once completed, it will facilitate the efficient transportation of refined petroleum products, bolstering the energy supply chain and meeting growing energy demands in the region.

Guelleh highlighted the project as a milestone in Djibouti's quest to become an energy, logistics, and industrial hub for Africa. He stated that the initiative will stimulate economic activity, expand port operations, attract new investments, and generate thousands of jobs.

Prime Minister Ahmed described the project as a strategic infrastructure development that will significantly enhance Ethiopia's energy security. He explained that the pipeline will provide a dependable and cost-effective system for transporting refined petroleum products, eliminating transportation bottlenecks and improving efficiency within the petroleum distribution network.

Dangote Group President Aliko Dangote underscored the project's alignment with the company's goal of building transformative infrastructure to support Africa's economic development and self-sufficiency. He said the project will enhance energy security, improve supply-chain efficiency, and generate sustainable economic value for both Djibouti and Ethiopia.
