EPA shuts down Ponlok Company over smoke emissions, poor waste management

The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has compelled Ponlok Company Limited in Shai to cease all operations immediately, following investigations into numerous environmental violations. The Authority discovered issues such as visible smoke emissions degrading air quality, insufficient pollution-control and monitoring systems, inadequate housekeeping and sanitation, improper waste disposal, and oil spills on the company's premises.

This action was taken after the EPA had previously cautioned the company to address the issues identified during inspections. Despite being granted additional time to rectify the problems, the EPA found several concerns still unaddressed, leading to the latest enforcement move. Consequently, Ponlok Company Limited has been ordered to suspend operations and promptly install required pollution-control and monitoring equipment to tackle the outstanding environmental issues.

The EPA's decision underscores its commitment to safeguarding public health and the environment, while ensuring adherence to environmental laws by businesses operating in the country. The Authority also emphasized that environmental compliance is a non-negotiable obligation for all entities.
