Debatte um Antisemitismus: „Stimmungsmache“: Berliner Linke wehrt sich gegen Vorwürfe

Die Berliner Linke vehemently rejects accusations of antisemitism, while also practicing self-criticism. New faction leader Elif Eralp stated during a party meeting: "Jewish people must feel safe in our city. I will strengthen diverse Jewish life and fight antisemitism," adding that she aims to become the future Berlin mayor after winning the recent election.

The party leader Kerstin Wolter also acknowledged self-criticism, admitting that the party had made mistakes, crossed boundaries, and spoke words that frightened Jewish women and men. She made it clear that such incidents are not in the party's name and it is their duty to investigate them. The party opposes antisemitism and racism, advocating for the existence of both Israel and a Palestinian state.

However, it is necessary to differentiate between antisemitism and legitimate criticism of Israel. The uproar surrounding events on election night following the Berlin parliamentary election was significant. The Linke emerged as the dominant force, and they plan to form a coalition with the Greens and SPD. Some party members have been criticized for a long time due to their positions on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and antisemitism.

The incident at the Neukölln branch of the Linke, where a known clan figure and a controversial pro-Palestinian activist attended a party on Sunday night, caused a large-scale debate across the country and led to warnings that the party would take over the city hall. Eralp called these accusations "stirring up trouble" as they went from being a separate criticism to having a devastating impact.

She emphasized that while a far-right party in Saxony-Anhalt is on the verge of power, they seriously believe that a democratic party advocating for social justice, diversity, and democracy can be prevented by this "stirring up trouble." However, this would not change anything.
