Citizens With Criminal Record Banned From Driving in Lahore

Lahore officials have initiated a check on the criminal histories of commercial vehicle drivers, and will revoke their licenses if any wrongdoing is discovered. The inspection encompasses holders of various commercial vehicle permits, as well as those operating heavy vehicles and buses. Chief Traffic Officer Abdul Rahim Shirazi explained that authorities are cross-referencing drivers’ licenses with data from the Criminal Record Office (CRO).

Information regarding drivers is also being gathered from bus and truck depots. Shirazi stated that this procedure will aid in identifying drivers with criminal records and updating their records. He further mentioned that a driver was found to have 27 criminal cases registered against him, including offenses such as robbery, theft, and fatal accidents.

The CTO added that licenses of drivers found with criminal records will be canceled, and these individuals will also be apprehended. The screenings are being conducted as part of efforts to screen commercial vehicle drivers and prevent those with criminal records from continuing to operate such vehicles in Lahore.
