Bandar Utama school stabbing: Victim's family to file civil suit

In the aftermath of a stabbing incident at a school in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, the victim's family has announced their intent to file a civil suit. The victim's mother, Wong Lee Ping, has expressed her family's decision to seek accountability for the incident, with the legal team yet to determine which parties will be named in the lawsuit. Ms. Wong voiced her concern over whether the tragedy could have been prevented, emphasizing the importance of understanding the circumstances surrounding the event.

The Attorney-General's Chambers (A-GC) has indicated its commitment to challenging the High Court's decision, which acquitted a 15-year-old boy of a murder charge connected to the victim, Yap Shing Xuen. The A-GC officially filed a notice of appeal at the Court of Appeal, indicating the official stance that the High Court's decision is being contested.

Kepong member of parliament Lim Lip Eng attended a press conference held by the victim's family, where he pledged legal support to the family through his office. Lim confirmed that his team has appointed lawyer Chia Hui Ming to assist the deputy public prosecutor in the appeal process. However, Hui Ming noted that the team has yet to gain access to essential documents, including witness statements and medical reports.

Without a thorough examination of all evidence, Hui Ming advised that it would be premature to form conclusions or interfere with the prosecution's case.

Furthermore, Lim affirmed that the prosecution has also filed an appeal, urging the Court of Appeal to render a final decision after reviewing all the evidence.
