At UN, Malaysia outlines three priorities to strengthen global peacebuilding

In a recent UN meeting, Malaysia outlined three key priorities to enhance global peacebuilding efforts. The first priority is ensuring that peacebuilding initiatives are initiated and led by the nations affected, making them meaningful and inclusive. Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan emphasized Malaysia's support for such strategies, which are complemented by preventive diplomacy and mediation efforts.

The second priority, according to the Malaysian Foreign Minister, is to ensure that peacebuilding efforts guarantee the full, equal, and safe participation of women. Malaysia recently hosted the 2025 Asean Summit on Women, Peace, and Security, which reaffirmed the significance of women's leadership in peacebuilding and advocated for stronger measures to prevent and address violence against women.

The third priority, as highlighted by Mohamad, is to strengthen national capacity and human capital within countries. This involves sharing Malaysia's development expertise and experience with other nations, particularly those in conflict recovery, through the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme. The Minister stressed that peacebuilding is a continuous process, not just a response to conflict, but an ongoing effort to create peaceful, inclusive societies, resilient communities, and stable economies.
