Army warns Yobe students against drug abuse

The Nigerian Army has launched an awareness campaign in Yobe State to educate students about the dangers of drug and substance abuse, emphasizing the importance of education in preventing such abuse and its implications for national security. On September 24, 2026, at Government Girls Unity College in Damaturu, Sector 2, Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) Commander, Brigadier General Edet Effiong, led the program attended by over 300 students from various schools in Yobe State.

The campaign, themed "Education as a Strategic Tool for Combating Drugs and Substance Abuse: Impact on National Security," aimed to highlight the role of education in combating drug abuse and its potential impact on families, communities, and national security. Effiong warned the students that drug abuse poses a threat to their well-being and future, urging them to rely on education and discipline to resist harmful substances.

He stressed that education, discipline, and positive choices are crucial defenses against drugs. The initiative, part of the non-kinetic component of ongoing Joint Operations Area efforts, seeks to strengthen community resilience by engaging young people and collaborating with relevant government agencies.
