APWEN seeks adaptable systems for women engineers

The Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) is advocating for adaptable systems that cater to all engineers, not just a select few. At the 2026 International Conference, Exhibition & AGM, APWEN President, Engr. Chinyere Nnnenna Igwegbe emphasized that women engineers must adapt to systems that work for everyone.

The conference, themed "Designing Adaptive Systems: Engineering Energy, Building Net-Zero, Delivering Tomorrow’s Infrastructure", provides a platform for women engineers to share their research, argue their points, learn from one another, and celebrate their innovations.

Igwegbe highlighted the changing landscape of city-building and environmental care, stating that women engineers are actively constructing solutions. She acknowledged that being a woman in engineering is not always an easy journey, as women face challenges, break barriers, and often have to work harder to be recognized. Patricia Odili, representing President of Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that women engineers are integral to engineering progress and that inclusive economic growth cannot be achieved without their excellence in the field.
