Apple to Keep New Camera App Feature to 2 Models

Apple has confined two recent camera controls, Texture and Grain, to its newest iPhone models. These features in Photographic Styles 3 are accessible on the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Duo, while older iPhone versions lack support for the new controls. The change initially caused confusion as Apple's initial wording hinted that the features would be available on devices supporting the latest version of Photographic Styles.

Apple's present support documentation now provides a more precise list of compatible devices. Texture allows users to soften skin or create various visual effects, while Grain imparts a film-like appearance. Users can also regulate the intensity of these effects. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are listed as compatible devices in Apple's current support guide.

The iPhone Duo, which has a 48MP main camera, a 48MP Ultra Wide camera, and a Center Stage front camera, also supports the new Texture and Grain controls. Apple asserts that its updated Photographic Styles support the new controls. Older iPhone models can still utilize Photographic Styles but will not receive the new Texture and Grain options.

Apple's iOS 27 guide specifies that other supported iPhones can still modify settings like tone, color, and intensity. The new Texture and Grain controls are distinct from these existing options. Apple has not disclosed the reason behind restricting the new controls to its latest models, only identifying which devices are compatible in its support documentation.

Users seeking the new photo controls must own an iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, or iPhone Duo. Older iPhone models will continue to employ the Photographic Styles features they currently have.
