‘Ape-ocalypse’ leads Nights of Fright 12 as Sunway Lagoon unveils pontianak, yokai and K-pop-inspired scares

KUALA LUMPUR, September 25 - The 12th edition of Nights of Fright, a renowned annual horror event, kicked off at Sunway Lagoon on September 24, 2026. Since its inception in 2013, Nights of Fright has become a major annual attraction, featuring walk-through haunted houses, special effects, and live scare actors. This year's theme, "Ape-ocalypse," draws inspiration from the Planet of the Apes and Mad Max film franchises, placing primates at the forefront as they hunt humans, all while the park transforms into a dystopian setting.

The festival, organized by Sunway Theme Parks and The Sudden Impact! Entertainment Company, offers nine horror attractions, each with a unique concept inspired by Malaysian and Asian folklore, manga, K-pop culture, and more. The main attraction, "Ape-ocalypse: The Kingdom Kong," plunges visitors into a world ruled by chainsaw-wielding apes.

Other attractions include "Pontianak vs Pocong," a short film screening showcasing Malaysian horror, "Yokai Road," featuring Japanese supernatural spirits, and "Little Shop of Horrors," a manga-inspired UV 3D experience. The festival also includes three scare zones with roaming performers and 11 Sunway Lagoon rides transformed into horror-themed spectacles.

Adding to the excitement, Nights of Fright 12 will conclude with live performances on the main stage after dark. The event runs every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from September 25 to November 7, 2026.
