Chicago Cubs third baseman Alex Bregman made his return to action against the Boston Red Sox on Friday, marking his first game since suffering multiple facial fractures from a foul ball in the on-deck circle. The incident occurred during the Cubs’ victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday, when Bregman was hit by a foul ball off the bat of teammate Michael Busch.

Sustaining several fractures, the three-time All-Star was designated hitter in his return to Fenway Park. Bregman, who spent the 2025 season with the Boston Red Sox before becoming a free agent and signing a $175 million, five-year contract with Chicago, expressed gratitude for his team’s support and the doctors’ clearance, stating that his desire to play baseball played a significant role in his swift recovery.
