AFCON 2027 qualifier: Super Eagles fight back to defeat Madagascar

Debutants George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor scored on their international debut as Nigeria edged out Madagascar 2-1 in a Group L AFCON qualifier. Nigeria trailed early on after conceding a goal to Madagascar, but the two young players rewarded Coach Eric Chelle's trust with goals that secured the win. Chelle reintroduced Stanley Nwabali and Ola Aina into the starting lineup, both of whom had a slow start.

Nigeria dominated possession, controlling 60% of it, but Madagascar took the lead via a well-executed corner kick play. Eshan broke the offside trap to meet Ryan Ponti's cross with a header, making it 1-0. Ilenikhena equalized for the Super Eagles in the 45th minute, controlling a pass from Alex Iwobi and slotting the ball past the goalkeeper.

Moses Usor completed the comeback with a solo goal late in the game, collecting the ball following a cleared corner kick and dancing past two defenders before scoring in the near post. Nigeria now ties atop Group L with Guinea-Bissau after their victory. The team will face Bissau in their next AFCON qualifier match on September 29.
